Where to stay

Stay where the event is.

The stay shapes the trip. Where you stay decides how far you walk (or ride) to the event or attractions, what you see on the way and how easily you get home through the crowds. So find what you are planning to do and let it set your dates, decide which area you want to be in before you look at hotels, and book early. On the big weekends, the January fiestas and the stadium concert runs above all, the whole metro travels and the well-placed rooms go first.

How booking around events works here

The Philippines' big travel windows are predictable: the January fiesta weeks in Cebu, Kalibo and Iloilo, the Holy Week exodus, the summer concert season and the long Christmas fill the event districts weeks out, while the rainy months are when the same hotels discount. Event stays add a venue to the plan: the Mall of Asia Arena, Araneta, the Philippine Arena and the SMX each pull the sensible base towards a different part of the metro.

In Metro Manila, traffic is the distance. The choice is between staying in the venue's own district, with everything on foot or one short ride, and a nicer base that costs you an hour each way on show night. Decide by the evenings: festivals and concerts are night events, and the best base is the one you can actually get home to when fifty thousand people leave at once.
